I moved to Switzerland a year and a half ago. I have no intention to leave any time soon. You’ll understand why after you read this post and see these 10 beautiful pictures of Switzerland!
1. The cute Swiss villages
Swiss villages typically look a bit like this. Cute as a button. These lovely Swiss chalets are surrounded by lots of green grass and beautiful mountains the background. They’re full of friendly inhabitants (and sometimes cows too!)
2. The friendly Swiss cows
The cows are super friendly in Switzerland. The Swiss love their cows for all the great cheese and milk products that they provide.
3. The modern airports
Zurich International Airport is one of the most modern airports in the world. The check-in process is crazy quick! I was surprised that my flight to Sweden last year took less than 10 minutes from check-in to passing security!
4. Riding the Swiss Express
If you don’t like taking airplanes, then you should consider taking a Swiss train! The trains are super convenient in Switzerland. Though a bit pricy, they are very reliable and offer spectacular views of all of Switzerland. And not to mention, you can get to pretty much anywhere using the rail system!
5. I’m on a boat
Did you know that Switzerland has over 1,500 lakes?
If you like boats, lakes, or both, then you are in luck. If you like boat tours, then you should definitely consider taking a trip aboard a Swiss boat. These boats make for a fun and sometimes more efficient way of getting from city-to-city.
I’ve done boat tours on three of Switzerland’s lakes: Lake Zug, Lake Zurich, and Lake Geneva. The boat pictured above is the boat which runs across Lake Geneva between Switzerland and France.
6. The Toblerone mountain!
Although this mountain is not actually called the Toblerone mountain, it’s the very mountain that is found on the face of every Toblerone chocolate bar. Its real name is the Matterhorn.
Standing at 4,478 m (or 14,690 ft), the Matterhorn is Europe’s 12th highest peak and Switzerland’s 10th tallest mountain.
7. Floating on cloud 9
There are over 48 mountains in Switzerland that are above 4,000 m (13,126 ft) in elevation. Standing at the summit, you are literally above the clouds. Trust me, it’s a magical feeling.
8. Can’t get enough of those mountains
Another lovely photo of the Swiss mountains which make for some of the best ski in the world!
9. Good hiking too
If you’re not a fan of winter sports, Switzerland also has a lot of beautiful scenery to offer for hiking and mountaineering in the summer. Imagine the Instagram-worthy photos you can take on top of these mountains!
And yes, the summers in Switzerland do get pretty hot, reaching over 30°C (or 86°F) at times. Coming from hot and humid Toronto, I really didn’t expect Switzerland to have such a roaring summer heat!
10. The world’s oldest truss bridge!
If you’re more of a city person, here’s a photo of one of Switzerland’s most famous cities, Lucerne. It’s situated in the German-speaking part of Switzerland and attracts over 5 million visitors annually. The Chapel Bridge pictured above is the oldest truss bridge in the world! It’s pretty impressive!
Congratulations for making it through these 10 beautiful pictures of Switzerland.
Switzerland is a truly breathtaking country. Can you blame me for wanting to stay longer?
