It’s a wrap! I’ve reached some major personal milestones in my third month of blogging! I received over 25,000 page views and earned $500! I still can’t believe it!
The reason I got into blogging in the first place was because I was studying other people’s income reports. There was so much to learn from them. That is also why I am sharing mine. It’s a way for me to track my progress (trials and failures) and help others by sharing my own experience.
This month I earned $100 in ad revenue (and I have Pinterest and this book to thank for bringing me traffic). I also made almost $400 in affiliate sales (thanks to this course that I just purchased this month).
If you haven’t started a blog already, don’t forget to also read my guide on how to start a profitable blog!

May 2018 Goals & Learnings
I purposely set some ambitious goals which I thought were doable but unlikely. I do this to motivate myself to work harder and not settle for goals that are way too easy to achieve. Here’s a review of the goals I set from last month and how I measured up!
1. Get 10,000 page views
SUCCESS!!!!! – 26,759 (+23,803 from last month)
I started really focusing on driving traffic to my blog from Pinterest. I am in love with Pinterest! One of my articles, 10 Things I Stopped Buying To Save Money, went completely viral on Pinterest and brought me over 17,000 page views to that one post alone! I will write a post about how I got my post to go viral very soon. Sign up for my newsletter to get updated!
This month, I used a combination of the schedulers and the strategies that I learned from the ebook Pinteresting Strategies. This ebook was a life changer for me. As soon as I started implementing these strategies, I saw a huge growth in my traffic. The first month I was average around 200 visitors per day, and in the second month I am getting over 400 visitors on a bad day. On my best day, I achieved over 2,600 visitors in one day! This is insane because that’s equal to the amount of traffic I received in all of April (the month before)!!
Another win was that I started using Tailwind and Boardbooster to schedule my pins. I realized that manual pinning has its limits. Well, firstly, I was starting to get sick of manually pinning. It gets quite mind-numbing. Also, manual pinning was consuming way too much of my time. Also, I am not pinning at the right time because I live in Europe and most of my audience lives in North America. During the time that they’re most active (and that I should be pinning), I am already in bed. Using a scheduler saves me from having to stay up late pinning.
I made the switch to Tailwind and Boardbooster this month (with free trials) and have seen great results. I’ve reduced the time I spend on Pinterest to less than 5 minutes per day. And I’m still seeing my traffic picking up. My free trial is up so next month I am going to go with the paid version and see how things go! Sign up below for a free trial of Tailwind!
2. 500 followers on Twitter
Fail – 350 followers (+61 from last month)
I am going to drop Twitter from my goals going forward. Twitter is not driving much traffic to my blog. I’d much rather spend my time on Pinterest.
I am mostly using Twitter as a way to socialize. Also, I find that there are too many random people following me in hopes of getting a follow back. I’m quite sick of playing this game of cat and mouse.
3. 500 followers on Pinterest
Fail – 393 followers (+266 from last month)
I set another ambitious goal and knew that it would probably be very unlikely to get 500 followers on Pinterest. However, I’m pretty pleased about increasing my followers by 266 in one month. Keep in mind, my account is still brand new. It’s only 2 months old right now!
4. 50 email subscribers
Fail – 26 subscribers (+20 from last month)
I’m super proud to say that I emailed my list 3 times this month. I think new bloggers are often scared to email their list. They’re scared that no one will read their email, and worse yet, that people will unsubscribe.
I had 2 unsubscribes this month but it doesn’t bother me. I am trying to grow my list and to email them at least once a week going forward.
This month, I finally opened up a resource library for subscribers to my list. I am hoping that this will help me to grow my list. I think it’s still missing some content, and I’ll be working on that in the next month or so.

5. Write 15 blog posts
Fail – wrote 10 (4 less than last month)
I burned myself out last month trying to write 20 blog posts, I ended up writing 14. This month, I want to write 15 and ended up with 10. Still, I think I am finally getting the hang of blogging and writing content that readers love. My most popular posts are about blogging and how to save money. I will focus my efforts on those types of posts going forward.
This month, I published the following articles:
- Period Products That Don’t Break The Bank: Everything You Need To Know (guest post)
- My Top 8 Biggest Financial Regrets (That I’m Still Regretting Today!)
- Life Lessons From A Classical Ballet Student
- Blogging for Profit: How To Start A Money-Making Blog
- How My Immigrant Parents Retired In Their 40’s and How It’s Affected My Life
- Why I Decided to Pursue A PhD Against My Parents’ Wishes
- 10 Things I Stopped Buying To Save Money
- How I Made My Very First Affiliate Sale By Accident
- How I Grew My Monthly Pinterest Traffic To 100,000 By Manually Pinning (No Tailwind or Boardbooster)
- My Second Month Blogging – April 2018 Income Report – $4.86
It used to take me 2-3 hours to write one post and now it takes me an hour max. And the graphics used to take me like… 30-60 minutes to make (I was SO bad at them originally) and now it’s taking me maybe 5 minutes max. This is what I love about blogging – seeing progress.
6. Make 1 affiliate sale
MAJOR SUCCESS!!! – I made $393.89 in affiliate sales!
This one completely blew me away.
Last month, I had no idea what affiliate marketing or affiliate sales were and I set the goal of making 1 sale. I thought that making affiliate sales was completely impossible for a brand new blog with very low traffic. However, within one hour of publishing my last income report, I made 2 affiliate sales in one day (for this ebook). If you don’t believe me, read this post about how I did it!
I then enrolled in the super popular Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing Course. It was a bit pricy ($197) but since I started making some money from my blog, I wanted to reinvest in areas that could earn me even more money. The creator earns over $50,000 a month from affiliate marketing alone. Also, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee – it doesn’t hurt to give it a try.
I implemented the strategies from the course and immediately started seeing even more sales coming in. This course was definitely worth the money. Within one month I made $392.89 from affiliate marketing. I’m pretty optimistic that I will be able to reach my next major goal of earning $1,000 a month.
My Blogging Goals for June 2018
- 30,000 page views
- 750 followers on Pinterest
- 100 email subscribers
- Write 10 blog posts
- Make $1,000 from my blog
Since I already achieved 26,759 page views in May, then I know getting 30,000 is totally doable. But, Pinterest has been glitchy lately and my page views are down again. I’m hoping I can get my page views up again so I can apply to Mediavine! Please help a girl out by sharing my posts!! 🙂
I know I will have to put in a lot of extra work to make all of these goals happen. First, I need to focus on getting more page views (from Pinterest but also organically). Then, I have to keep up with my Pinterest game to get more followers and pin only really good stuff. I’m also going to have to add more “freebies” or “lead magnets” to entice people to join my email list 🙂
I’ll be busy next month but I will make time to schedule in 10 posts. I’ve done it before so this shouldn’t be a problem.
Do you think it’s possible that I can make $1,000 from my blog next month?!! That would require me to earn double what I earned in May!
Revisiting: To Do List for May 2018
Let’s revisit what I had put on my to do list for May. I love to-do lists and apparently I am not that great at following through on all my tasks 😉
- Revisit all my old blog posts and embed more “related links” in them –> mostly done in the popular posts
- Fix all my old Pinterest graphics and make them prettier and more “pinnable” –> mostly done in the popular posts
- Make my blog more compliant (add a more in-depth privacy disclosure, etc.) –> fixed up my privacy disclosure
- Add a freebies/resources page for my blog. I am planning to add some free resources on how to start a blog and how to budget. –> done, check it out here
- Learn Tailwind and start using it –> done! And I am a raving fan now 🙂
- Finish my “How To Start A Blog” series –> finally done, read the guide here
- Write more articles that are on backlog (i.e. how I grew my Pinterest traffic, how I bought a house, how I went to university for free, etc.) –> no, I only wrote one article about Pinterest traffic, the rest are still on backlog
- Move my mailing list to another provider and start actually emailing my list –> half done. I emailed my list 3 times but I haven’t moved to another provider yet.
To Do List for June 2018
I’ll be very busy next month trying to finish my thesis so I will be spending even less time on my blog. Here’s the major things I want to get done next month:
- Add more freebies for my blog, one related to moving abroad (checklist)
- Add more blog posts about how to save money to buy a house and how to go to university for free
- Update older posts with sleeker graphics
- This might have to wait another month but I’d love to redesign my blog (still looking for the perfect theme)
Key Stats for May 2018
- Page views: 26,759 (up from 2,956)
- Twitter Followers: 350 (up from 289)
- Pinterest Followers: 393 (up from 127)
- Email subscribers: 26 (up from 6)
Overall, I am super pleased. I am totally blown away that I have achieved my goal of achieving 10,000 page views (I got more than double my initial goal). And I guess that makes up for falling behind on the other goals.
May 2018 Blog Income Breakdown: $494.07
- Income: $494.07 (up from $4.86 last month)
- Hours spent blogging: 31.25 hours
This month, I earned $101.18 from Google Adsense. I am working on increasing my monthly sessions to 25,000 so that I can get into a premium ad network.
Affiliate income: $392.89
I promoted Grammarly in a blog post they awarded me $25. This software is great for helping proofread your blog posts!
My post, 10 Things I Stopped Buying To Save Money, went viral and I earned $2.45 from Amazon purchases. This is a really low figure but I guess it’s because the blog post is about NOT BUYING things to save money. I wish I had taken the Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing course earlier and added more affiliate links before the post went viral. Oh well, you live and you learn.
I wrote a post about how to start a blog and some people have followed my advice and started a blog of their own. I am so happy that I’m helping someone out!!
Pinteresting Strategies: $102.40
Again, one of my favourite ebooks of all time. This book helped me to grow my blog’s traffic to over 25,000 page views in my third month blogging. Many people have followed my advice and bought this book. They’ve told me that they’re seeing great results as well :)!
There was a sale for Memorial Day (20% off) and I promoted it to my readers. I will be writing a review of this course in the next few days!
Time spent blogging
Last month, I spent 41 hours blogging. This month, it went down to 31.25. I can explain this.
First, I got super busy with life. I have to finish my master thesis and it’s taking most of my time. I’m a full-time student and blogging is just my side hustle 😉
Also, I was travelling for about a week in Spain and didn’t have time to dedicate to my blog.
However, I optimized my time blogging. Instead of wasting 15-30 minutes manually pinning every day, I let Tailwind and Boardbooster do the work for me. And I have never looked back. It’s freed up so much of my time so that I can actually focus on building more content for my blog. I was on the free trial last month but I am going to upgrade to the paid version starting in June. Totally worth the money! Sign up from my links above to get a free trial too!
Also, as a disclaimer, I count the number of hours blogging as the time actually spent writing blog posts, promoting my posts on social media, emailing my list, and completing blog assignments in the blogging courses that I’m taking (Elite Blog Academy and Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing). I do not count the amount of time that I spend reading blogs, stalking blogs, commenting on other blogs, refreshing Google Analytics in hopes of getting more page views, dreaming about blogging… you know the drill. I’m only counting productive hours I spend on my blog. If I count all the other “noise,” I’m sure the time would be more than double!
This month, I basically earned $15.81/hour blogging. Yay! That’s minimum wage!
May 2018 Blog Expenses: $197
I purchased the Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing course to learn how to make more money from affiliate sales. The results blew me away. This month, I made nearly $400 in affiliate marketing. I’m so happy with the results and that has already more than paid for the course itself. And this proves that you don’t need a huge following or a lot of page views to start making money from affiliate sales!
I already prepaid for 3 years of hosting with Bluehost so I’m not including it in this month’s expenses. If you haven’t started a blog already, you can sign up through my link and get a free domain! Learn how to start a blog with my free guide.
I also invested $32 in Pinteresting Strategies which I highly recommend to anyone who is serious about growing their traffic with Pinterest!

I am finally starting to make some money from my blog! It happened much sooner than expected. I thought that maybe if I was lucky I would start making money within 6 months. This result has been unbelievable for me!
I can’t wait to see how June 2018 unfolds!
