On March 7, 2018, I decided to finally take the plunge and register the mytwentycents.com domain. “Should I start a blog?” was a question I was asking myself for ages. I know that everyone has their own motivations for starting a blog. In this article, I discuss the top 5 reasons why I finally decided to start blogging again.
My blogging story
I created my very first blog when I was still a high-school student. Back in the 2000’s, blogging was more about sharing mundane details about your personal life rather than about cascading actual, useful information to the general public. I felt that blogging was a bit invasive. I didn’t want to overshare too much for fear of attracting stalkers and cyberbullying.
Now, fast forward nearly 2 decades, and being a blogger has become a full-time gig in itself. Some bloggers have even surpassed the 7-figure mark in terms of annual revenue. Case in point: Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income made over $2 million in 2017 and Michelle Schroeder-Gardner of Making Sense of Cents earned $1.5 million in 2017. The power of blogging is just incredibly surreal, and it’ll only grow even powerful.
Today, I am going to give you 5 reasons why I decided to launch my blog (and why you should too if you haven’t already)!
1. I enjoy writing
First of all, I actually enjoy writing, A LOT. I love composing emails, essays, product reviews, informational guides, you name it. To me, writing is a creative outlet for me to express myself and to share a little bit about me with the world. It doesn’t feel like a chore at all. In fact, there is even a meditative aspect to it that actually helps me feel extremely relaxed after a writing session. I figure, if I am so passionate about writing, why not turn it into a full-time career?

2. People have told me for the longest time that I should start blogging
I have been told, time and time again, that I should start a blog – by friends, by families, even by strangers. This just CONFIRMS that I have an interesting voice, and that there is probably some niche out there that would care about what I have to talk about!
3. Blogging is an adventure
Stepping into unchartered territories and connecting with people from all facets of life, blogging provides me with everything I look for in a solid adventure. Blogging allows me to explore on my own, learn new things, and meet new people, right from the comfort of my own home. I’m super excited to test out new blog post ideas, eBook ideas, and eventually online course ideas with a group of loyal readers.
4. Blogging will teach me new skills
There is so much more than meets the eye in the world of blogging. It’s much more than just writing about the last TV show you watched or the last time you brushed your hair. Starting a blog will push me out of my comfort zone and actually force me to acquire new skills that I do not currently possess. Do you know what SEO is? What affiliate marketing is? How to write an eBook? How to launch an online course? Well, me neither! Can anyone say, personal development?
5. Blogging can generate large amounts of money
Blogging is a highly lucrative industry valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. Even for bloggers who are just starting out, the potential for profits seems bottomless. If you work hard on your blog, you CAN and WILL eventually achieve your target income. Since I am still a fledgling newcomer, I am setting myself a realistic target of monetizing my blog by the 6-month mark. I also plan to document every step of my journey on this blog to help others in the same situation as me. The struggle to my first $1,000 will be so worth it!
So, there you have it, my top 5 reasons for launching this blog. In summary, I love writing and want to turn it into my full-time career. If you’re a blogger, what were your main reasons for starting your blog? If you haven’t started blogging yet, what is stopping you? I’d love to hear from you, via the comments below.
